Siwa Oasis Escape

Overview

A journey to one of Egypt's most remote oases. Siwa lies around 750 kilometres from Cairo, and it is worth every one of them. Stay three nights at a 4-star lodge built in the Siwan style, and visit the old fortress of Shali, the Temple of the Oracle, Cleopatra's Spring and the salt lakes, where you float without effort. The third day is a 4x4 safari into the Great Sand Sea: sandboarding on the dunes, a swim in a hot spring and tea by the fire at sunset. Day by day

1. Day1

   Cairo to Siwa

   Dawn departure by coach along the Alamein road and through Marsa Matrouh, with rest stops on the way. Arrive in Siwa in the evening, check in and dine at the lodge.

2. Day2

   Shali, the Oracle and the salt lakes

   A morning tour of Shali fortress, the Mountain of the Dead and the Temple of the Oracle. Traditional Siwan lunch, then a swim at Cleopatra's Spring and a float in the salt lakes. Sunset from Fatnas Island among the palms.

3. Day3

   Great Sand Sea safari

   Set off by 4x4 into the towering dunes of the Great Sand Sea. Sandboarding, a swim in the cold lake and then in the hot spring at Bir Wahed. Tea by the fire at sunset, a Bedouin dinner and back to the lodge.

4. Day4

   Return to Cairo

   A free morning in Siwa's market for dates, olive oil and handicrafts, then the coach back to Cairo. Arrival at night.
